Tymek Kucharczyk is the new Euroformula Open Champion after winning a breathtaking Race 2 by one thousands of a second on Yevan David. If Race 1 this morning had been fantastic, Race 2 was simply incredible, with plenty of action and close fighting involving six drivers, and a final sprint won by Kucharczyk over Yevan David and Everett Stack that required fotofinish confirmation.

With this sixth win of the season, the Pole of BVM Racing netted the title one race before the end. He was elated after the success and receiving the warm accolade of friends, family, fns and the many media that came from Poland. “What a day and what a race, I have no words, I am over the moon”, he said, “It was so nice to see so many Polish flags around the track. I want to thank you the team for the great job, and everyone who has supported me in this fantastic campaign.” At his side, a Giuseppe Mazzotti soaked in champagne was no less happy: “For a small team like us, it is great to win the title and to do it this way”, commented BVM’s boss, “At some point in the race, we just told Tymek ‘go for it’, there was no other way to do it, and he did a fantastic job. Since the very first day Tymek got in the car, we knew we had a true racer and a winner with us.”

THE RACE – At the start, David in the pole has a perfect kick-off, but next to him, Famularo has a slow start. The Vnezuelean is passed by Kucharczyk and avoided by the others but the group get abreast at first braking, with the inevitable consequence: Pearson hits Barrichello, who goes straight losing body parts, while Famularo spins. Everybody rejoins, except for Pearson.
David is in the lead ahead of Kucharczyk, but the Pole with a perfect move takes P1 in lap 3 with a perfect move. Stack is third ahead of de la Torre, Shin, Stack and Garfias. The fight, also using towing, is superb, and by lap 9 it is Shin leading having passed Kucharczyk and Stack, followed by Garfias and yeh, while David has dropped to sixth.
The battle rages between the first three, with exciting moments at the first chicane, but Shin manages just about to keep first, now ahead Stack because Kucharczyk retakes the lead in lap 12,while in the following lap a contact between Garfias and Shin ruins the race of both.
Still, th attention is all for the battle for first between Kucharczyk, David and Stack, which is simply superb, with plenty of moves, and the three are systematically abreast in some of the corners. It is close, exciting and clean fighting. In a breathtaking finale, Kucharczyk passes David on the outside at Parabolica, with the three crossing the line abreast, like in the GPs of the ‘70s. The foto-finish will confirm Kucharczyk win by 1 thousandths of a second on David and 7 tenths on Stack.
